Heads-Up

Posted on July 27th, 2010 by admin in citizen journalist | 4 Comments »

This September, YouTube will launch its first journalism program. It’s a contest for aspiring reporters to tell stories that often don’t get reported by traditional media, and thus might not otherwise be told.

The first assignment in this contest is to create a video profile of someone you find compelling — someone in your community you think the world should know about.

All videos must be three minutes or less, must be in English, and can only contain content created by you.

We wanted to give you a little bit of a heads-up now, in case you wanted to get an early start.

Stayed tuned for more details on the program, including prizing, how the entries will be judged, which will be announced in a few weeks.

Mark Glaser and Jim Ray – Hacker Journalists at Gnomedex

Posted on July 2nd, 2010 by admin in journalists | 20 Comments »

http://www.gnomedex.com – Why did media companies miss the boat on the web? They haven’t always valued the input from their own technology folks on staff. That’s changing as the web is becoming an important source for news and information. So now local newspapers, radio stations and TV stations are hoping that a new breed of “hacker journalists” can help them out by having experience in coding and also understanding journalism issues. http://twitter.com/chrispirillo – http://chris.pirillo.com
