What are some majors that would help if I want to go into Photojournalism?
Naturally I’d want to major in Photography and Journalism. Are these good majors that would help prepare me at all? Or should I just go with something else and maybe minor in journalism?
Well, I’m going for my B.A. in Communications, and you can use it, for law, public relations, journalism (I want to be a journalist), social service, etc. Check out schools that interest you, and find out about their double majors, or their other programs you can incorporate into your plan.
Why do some people say that "Philippines is a forgotten spanish province in Asia"?
I am an spanish-european citizen, living near to Madrid. I hear frequently to my parents, teachers and some journalists on TV say, when they speak about Philippines, that this country is "a forgotten spanish province in Asia".
What does mean this expression? Explain me it, please.
because Philippines deserves to be forgotten
why does Tiger woods owe journalists detailed account about his affairs?
is it some code of ethics btw them and atheletes? That they made him who he is and he has to explain in detail for example the car accident outside his house to them ?
it seems wierd
I don’t feel that he owes anybody anything… jeez…. just because he has money.. it isn’t like he is the only man with money that has gone out and cheated on his wife…
All it is .. is summin for the media to grab a hold of.. and take it for what’s it worth… and by the looks of things… they are doing a great job…
what colleges in nc or anywhere offer fashion journalism?
i wanna be a fashion magazine editor and people has told me that i should look in to fashion jounalism or major in jounalism and minor in fashion design/merchandising or vice versa. I live in North Carolina and would like to stay in the state or atleast colleges near here but im having a hard time finding colleges around here that offer what im looking for. Can anybody help me out?
It’s hard to find colleges because good colleges often realize that they should not educate people for vocational fields in which it is virtually impossible to find a job. How many fashion magazines are there in the USA? If there are one hundred and each has six editors, that’s six hundred jobs. If five percent of those people quit their job each year, that’s thirty open jobs. There are fifty states in the country. That’s fewer than one job per state. The jobs are going to go to the relatives and close friends and colleagues of the people who are leaving. Where will that leave you?
Please do yourself a favor and consider a career in which there are jobs available.
Best wishes.
What is your philosophy of higher education?
I am trying to write a paper for one of my classes, and am having a hard time finding information on the topic. Our prof wants us to get others philosophies of higher education and evaluate them and come up with our own. However, when I search "philosophy of higher education" all I get is info on PhD programs! So, if you are a higher ed administrator or an educator, what is your philosophy of higher education, or what is your college’s philosophy?
Also if you have any tips on where to find this information, or better ways to search, please let me know!
Thanks for your help!
One reason why you may not be finding anything specifically on this topic is because it is subjective and interpretive.
My opinion is that higher education is fine if it has a practical application. For instance, practicing law or becoming a doctor but there are many other professions where this could hamper the individual. From a professional aspect, the worst Engineers I have ever had on my staff or worked with me are PhD’s. Their minds are developed in such an analytical manner that they become dysfunctional. Also, this is compounded by people who achieve degrees all in the same field i.e. engineering. I think it is great from a science perspective but from management or operatability it is useless.
I would rather see an Engineer with an undergrad and MS or a MBA rather than a PhD anytime. To this day, I wont higher PhD because I have no use for them.
Are Republicans MEDIA or journalistic saavy enough to answer this one?
Name two Conservative TV journalists or editorial writers (who appear on some of the political TV shows as commentators)….
but you CANT list a name thats already been listed in a post on this thread
I’ll give you one: George Will
Can you do it? You GOP folks DO watch the news…on different networks….and read different papers and magazines…right???
My point? I dont believe they even KNOW conservative media people past Sean Hannity.
and quit cheating! Only 2, please
Well, I have a few things here. Just today President-elect Obama met with members of conservative media. I’m not sure who exactly that means, but I’m sure it’s someone. I happen to think you’re the one who isn’t *ahem* "journalistic saavy". And finally, Tucker Carlson, Laura Ingraham, Misha on Morning Joe (keep forgetting her last name for some reason), Elisabeth Hasslebeck, Rush Limbaugh, Howard Stern (really more Libertarian than anything)…oh and Xander Crews.
How would taking mass communication in college help you become a news presenter for like entertainment shows?
I heard if you take mass communication you can be like a tv anchor or like something like Ryan Seacreast. How would that course help you?
I think mass communication teaches more about media types – so it could give you an overview to the entertainment industry (and print media- magazines, newspapers, etc). The hosts/personalities/voice-over artists that I have worked with come from different backgrounds. A lot of them have backgrounds as actors and singers (experience you can even get in high school or college). That gives you experience in stage presence and diction. You could take classes in radio production or film studies – it helps to understand how the process works. I know one tv host who started by commentating college sports events, and just worked his way up through his own college into a professional job.
If you’re interested as a career, you might even be able to find an internship at a local tv network just to find out if you like it.
Why are most journalists and actors liberal?
Journalists and actors tend to be the world’s dumbest people.
Boss H ~ Only scientists in Academia are liberal. Nutty liberal. The scientists that I work with in industry have been predominantly conservative.
Boss H ~ I love your answer. You present a perfect example of liberal argument. You make no sense whatsoever. Are you debating an issue someone else posted a month ago? LOL. You are all over the board. Well done.
Boss H ~ All of the scientists that I have ever encountered, conservative and liberal, believe in evolution. Believing in evolution doesn’t make one liberal.
It’s because in both of those worlds conservatives are often blackballed if they are very vocal on their views. Editors and producers frown on conservative thought and don’t want it tarnishing their work. It’s not that their dumb, they have to feed a family.
What questions should I ask a journalist who I am interviewing?
My assignment for my journalism class is to have two well thought of questions to ask my teacher who is a journalist. I’m just not really sure what to ask him.
We also get extra credit if our questions show research, but I’m not really sure what to research?
Ask him: "If you were interviewing a journalist, what questions would you ask him?"
Perhaps, since he’s a journalist, you could ask him something related to journalism? A good fall back is asking about the relevance of journalism in relation to *x*. Look up a crime that was solved because of media coverage and ask whether he feels on the whole that journalist help solve crimes, or whether they sensationalise them and cause fear in the community unnecessarily. Or ask whether journalists should be allowed more access to war zones/civil unrest areas to draw the world’s attention to them and show the world what is really going on.
Another option is to ask if he thinks print media is dying, as less people buy the paper and more turn on the TV. Is this something to regret or will TV news be a suitable replacement if not an improvement on the old print media?
