…fair and … …fair and respectiful point, North Korea is certainly a country where they dont allow not much freedom or independence and isolate the people living there. Censorship is highly rife in North Korea also. Infact i think no one in this planet respects North Korea’s motives at all, basically the continent is bloody terrifying and for journalists such as these two here to enter the country illegally is very risky and when caught they face death or hard labour. Its just my view of the situation…
Normally I would … Normally I would agree. If this was Russia, China, even Iraq. What makes this case special to me is the fact that it’s North Korea, the most isolated and closed country in the world. The only country still using a systematic system of concentration, and extermination camps.. Journalists are already not allowed to enter the country, so the only way of actually documenting this is by witness/survivor accounts and journalists risking their lives. I don’t really respect North Korea’s borders..
If you do enter … If you do enter into a country illegally…obviously u dont deserve to die, Of corse its brillaint tht they were rescued and not killed but how exactly does tht make them heroes? Heroism is not going into a country illegally, thn getting Bill Clinton to get u out. Heroism is saving a family frm a burning home, saving peoples lifes from near death. Bill is a hero i suppose but not the journolists im sorry. Again im glad they were saved, but entering in a country illegally is a tad wrong ¬¬
@Atorian83:
They … @Atorian83:
They didn’t have to enter, no. But if journalists entered Nazi Germany to document fleeing Jews, we might have known about the Holocaust A LOT sooner. If journalists had entered Cambodia in 1975, it could have spared millions of lives. The only reason we knew of the Rwandan genocide early on was through journalism. Journalists are often a much more powerful tool than military, especially in regards to North Korea, so don’t say it didn’t *need* to be taken.
PRCForever, CNN, … PRCForever, CNN, NBC and NYT actually cover the Iraq War and Guantanamo on a very regular basis. If you actually watched/read it, you would know.
In the case of … In the case of North Korea, I don’t believe it was wrong to enter. Women like Euna Lee and Laura Ling are the very reason we even know what goes on inside North Korea. By documenting North Koreans crossing the border into China, more people have become aware of the situation for these people. Why do you think Kim Jong Il fears journalists more than anything else?
@franksierra9:
No, … @franksierra9:
No, people like these women are the reason hundreds of thousands of North Korean refugees are alive today. They are the reason we know what goes on in North Korea. If you want to support the secrecy of North Korea, go somewhere else, and let people who actually care about the injustices that goes on there do their work.
Apparently these … Apparently these two journolists entered in another country illegally, so didnt they get what they kind off deserved? before the they got pardoned?
Happy? WTF you … Happy? WTF you talking about retard! I just told you the truth! Many Chinese Guides especially along the borders of North Korea & China are paid off! They are known to lead the people into N. Korea’s territory n vanish! Know the truth women before you even think about replying!
You’re being really … You’re being really ignorant right now! You don’t even know what happened. So don’t say that! I can’t believe you’re happy they had to go through all that!
Thanks, Bill! A … Thanks, Bill! A great president, in spite of the Republican witch hunt you endured. Thanks for continuing to spread good will around the globe, as you did during your 8 year presidency!
In the end, we were … In the end, we were convicted and sentenced to two years for trespassing and 10 years for “hostile acts.” What did we do that was hostile? We tried to tell the story of repression and desperation in North Korea. It’s not surprising, given the North Korean government’s desire to silence any form of dissent, that the more extreme portion of the sentence was issued not for trespassing but for our work as journalists. Totalitarian regimes the world over are terrified of exposure. qoute from l. ling
lol….do you … lol….do you REALLY think the NKoreans give a about what the rest of the world thinks? On paper they say they will end their nuclear program, in reality it will continue in secret. These brave reporters made no difference. And if you and many others believe the NKoreans are trustworthy, then you are in for a harsh hit of Reality
