How do I take a photojournalism picture?

Posted on April 2nd, 2010 by admin in photojournalism | 5 Comments »

I need to take a shot in the area of photojournalism, but I am stuck on the concept… I have no clue what to take a picture of!! Can someone help me! I feel like I’m just not getting it!

Think of emotions that you want to stimulate from someone who looks at your image.

Sometimes it’s the color or angle or perspective that gets attention to a story… you need to be the photographer who works with someone who is going to write a story (a photojournalist does both)… so, how would you go about selling your story over all those other writers in your newspaper?… by capturing the attention of the viewer first with a strong image.

What couses can I take to be in journalism -and- photojournalism?

Posted on March 31st, 2010 by admin in photojournalism | 2 Comments »

I really don’t know much about college courses or anything along those lines, I just know what I want to do. I want to specialize in journalism AND photojournalism. Is that possible? And what courses should I take?

At Marshall University (where I’m a journalism major) it is possible to major in both. Most who want to usually major in journalism and minor in photography. All journalism majors have to take a few photojournalism courses, as well as designing courses.

When you decide to major in journalism, there are a few different types to choose from. Print (newspapers, magazines), broadcast (tv, radio), online (Internet based), public relations and advertising. I’m a print major, so most of my courses involve copy editing, reporting and designing newspapers and magazines.

I hope this helps..

What is a good college/university for photojournalism, and what courses in highschool would I have to take?

Posted on March 29th, 2010 by admin in photojournalism | 3 Comments »

I am a grade nine student, thoroughly enjoyed by photojournalism. I was wondering what university/college would be good for persuing this. It doesn’t matter where the school is, as long as it will get me on the top of my game! Thank you.

Art institute of Atlanta is amazing. So much history as well. Take photograph and be on the yearbook team or the school newspaper. Or just show up to events, write and snap, then send your work to local papers and such. Use your imagination.
