Isn’t it up to the journalists if they want to risk their lives? If Israel wasn’t trying to hide war crimes, then why not just let them in so the world could see how "civilised" the IDF is?

There were enough journalists there or didn’t you watch/read the news.
Why…every Arab in the Gaza had a camera, and what wasn’t taken live was later fabricated in Palywood.

How do Journalists go about finding subjects for their story?

How do Journalists come about subjects for their stories? In newspapers and magazines you read amazing life stories about people that seem like ordinary neighbours. How do Journalists come about finding these people/stories? Or if the Journalist is famous enough, do subjects come find them?

We look everywhere we can. A sense of curiosity is a start, of course, and a knack for finding the unusual helps. We also listen — plenty of good ideas come from friends and readers. E-mail has really helped in that regard.

Funny story along those lines — my wife once told me that I should do a story on two of our friends who have been running together on weekends for 25 years. I asked, what’s the hook? I discovered that they started because one thought it would be a good way to get over the grief caused by the death of a child. Bingo. Got a really nice warm story of it.

You just never know. But usually, everyone has a story to tell.
