France bans citizen journalists from reporting violence?

Are the French crazy???? What in the world are they thinking? This law will just promote violence because the regular Joe Schmoe won’t be able to report anything anymore! anybody else freaked out?

Another great piece of legislation from the socialists in Europe. And Hillary Clinton thinks we should be more like them. Ugh!

Is it just me or is good journalism now reserved just for Cable News,citizen journalists,or newspapers?

I’ll give you an example.The County Assessor of my county just got arrested for corruption charges.My local newspaper caught the assessor changing records for political patrons.What does my local tv station do?Copy the story.Sometimes I swear my local tv reporters have newspaper headlines on the teleprompter.Citizen journalists report news on their own accord,so their reporting is usually,very good or very bad.Cable News report worldwide so their reporting is again very good or very bad(Bill O’Reilly get the hint).News radio mixes in with Talk radio so there’s is more commentary than actual news reporting.And internet news is the great thief stealing from everybody while mixing in with citizen journalists.What do you think?

I think you are on the right track, although I would be quick to add network news does some good things.

Radio news has virtually collapsed in recent years. Economics are the problem — no one is paid very much, and you get what you pay for. Anyone who is good moves on to other things pretty quickly. The exception may be at the biggest cities. Talk radio obviously isn’t journalism.

Television news on a local basis has gone downhill once stations discovered they could make money on it. There’s been a squeeze on finances in many cities, and newscasts seem more concerned with ratings and self-promotion than actual news.

Just remember that commentators aren’t reporters, so if someone says something you might think is stupid, it may just be a disagreement over the issues.

How is new media technology affecting news coverdge?

Any body at the scene of a developing news story can now act as a citizen journalist giving eyes whiteness accounts to news stations as well as recording footage that can be used by news channels. This has been made posible through Mobile Phones (Cellphones). How are new media technologies, such as mobile phones, affecting news coverage?

The technology is so fast, that the news is quite often presented as fact brfore the details can be fully examined, and investigated.

This is why you see so many corrections, and retractions, and apologies published after the fact.

not a journalist; I haven’t seen a journalist recently who really asks the questions that need to be asked; Diane Sawyer, Oprah, Meredith Viera etc etc; perhaps everyone is fearful of being sued or lose their jobs; hence the eroding of freedom of speech; she was better in the early days before fame and money and a feeling of being all that got to her; now she is just like the rest; change the channel please
