Who are good investigative journalists or some good news sources?

Posted on May 31st, 2010 by admin in journalists | 4 Comments »

Amy Goodman and Jane Akre are two of the only journalists I trust and al-Jazeera and Democracy Now! are, in my mind, the most trustworthy news source. Know of any others trustworthy news places? I’m trying to find more indepenedent news sources but they are scarce. Corporately owned media is complete garbage, more of a comedic approach to news.

Glenn Greenwald does some good investigative journalism occasionally (Salon). Michael Isikoff from Newsweek. The CBC has a cracking news investigative unit that pops up in various programs on CBC, NPR, and PRI. "The Fifth Estate" is their flagship program. "W5" from CTV can also be good. Plus Sy Hersh is still clanking around.

How much does a journalist for the New Yorker make a year?

Posted on May 31st, 2010 by admin in journalist | 1 Comment »

I have HUGE dreams of writing for the new yorker magazine
when I’m older. Does anyone know how much they make a
year? Like, a typical journalist on the staff.

why don’t you ground your dream in a bit of realism before you want to know how much you might be making doing grunt work at an intellectually superior publication? grunt work is the same everywhere.

the type of writer you are thinking of has a name, has a following, has a contract with the publication that does not just spell out how much s/he is paid, but what the magazine may and may not do to the writing, i.e. editing it.

a grunt’s work is never done and a grunt’s work may be rewritten fifty times before it pleases – and then is spiked because room is needed for the star columnist’s lengthier than usual article.

I want to be a photojournalist and right now I am a junior in high school. Can anyone please tell me some good journalism schools? I would prefer them to be in Tennessee or a Christian one, but if you can just give me a list in or out of the U.S. Thanks in advance.

Did You hear that comment from a Wall Street Journalist today?

Posted on May 29th, 2010 by admin in citizen journalist | 4 Comments »

He said Senior citizens don’t pay taxes, I’ll have Him know, we pay taxes on property, estimated taxes on SS and Pension, tax on interest, tax on stock sales, tax on gas and clothes, school taxes, besides thousands of dollars per yr. for supplemental health ins.and a dozen other insurances and fees. Where is this nutcake coming from. I hope he grows very old!

Just to play devil’s advocate, could he be referring to the fact that most seniors don’t pay payroll taxes (for those that are retired)?

If his total comment was "Senior citizens don’t pay taxes", then he IS a nutjob. We have folks here in PA who may lose their homes over the school and property taxes. AND, don’t get me started on NJ property and school taxes!

Washington Post – Liberal or Bias?

Posted on May 29th, 2010 by admin in journalistic ethics | 9 Comments »

Washington Post writer says McCain aides suggested McCain stay away from a lobbyies – but the way they say it they twist the story to cause readers to think McCain did something wrong? Is this one sided – or just being liberal with the news.

Shouldn’t the Washington Post also write about the 1000s of lobbiests that Clinton or Obama associate with?

And the Washington Post and others bring up the Ethics Committee that looked into McCains activities – 20 years ago – and say nothing about Hillarious Clinton’s escapades with Whitewater – or even the White House travel agency.

So – is the Washington post just presenting a liberal side? – Seems to me this is very conservative – writing only on a single instance – rather than the whole life of the person.

THIS QUESTION IS NOT ABOUT POLITICS OR THE ELECTION – BUT ABOUT THE WASHINGTON POST AND JOURNALISTIC BIAS
Adam B – go yell fire in some other theatre – The press should be ethical and not print a story twisted to make it seem damaging – the story itself never says he did anything wrong – but they sure want to make it look that way.

Both. LOL, LOL, LOL! I can’t help it, I always laugh when an asker of a question sticks it to the Liberals

reporters and journalists, how many of you have sold out on the ethics you started with?

Posted on May 29th, 2010 by admin in journalist ethics | 2 Comments »

Its sickening to know that this question even needs to be asked. Where can the public turn to now that the media has sold us out? We can no longer rely on the "4th estate" for anything more than fake hype and sensationalism.

How would i go about doing a double major and a minor?

Posted on May 29th, 2010 by admin in jounalism | 1 Comment »

I want 2 start my own magazine in my hometown because i have always wanted 2 work 4 a magazine and become editor and cheif but my hometown doesnt have a magazine and by fiancee doesnt wanna leave r familys so i was thinking about majoring in photojounalism and print jounalism then get a minor in business administration. How would i do that?

You don’t need to get two majors and a minor to do this per say. You should find a university that has a journalism and business program. You can take classes throughout the university, even if you aren’t pursuing a specific major, so you can start by taking classes in all three disciplines.

You will likely find that journalism and photojournalism are similar enough that you will be able to only have one major and find yourself content to only take a couple courses in the other rather than picking up an entire second major which will involve many additional classes, some of which may not be relevant to your interests.

You could also consider designing your own major, or pursuing journalism as an undergraduate, and then a masters program in administration and management.

What does Texas education law say about someone who can not complete the physical education course?

Posted on May 29th, 2010 by admin in education | 3 Comments »

My brother broke his wrist and is unable to do what the school requires him to do for physical education, but the school refuses to sit him out. They keep saying its a law that he must complete the course, but he cant.

Does your brother have a doctor’s statement confirming that he cannot complete the course?

Can I sue Fox News for not being journalistic?

Posted on May 29th, 2010 by admin in journalistic | 13 Comments »

I have been watching the Daily Show many times and they constantly point out Republican biases promoted on Fox News. Do news programs have a responsibility to be fair and balanced or is it okay for them to not tell the truth? Thanks.
