How do I enter the Photojournalism field and is the pay good?
I’m still in my second year of college and my desire is to become a photojournalist. Should I major in Journalism/Communications or Photography? What exactly is freelancing photography and does it pay well as oppossed to a company job.
Wouldn’t majoring in just Journalism lead you to the photojournalism as well and receive the same kind of benefits and choices as any other person with a Journalism careers?
Freelance photographers generally get paid for the photos they take based on whether or not the customer wants them and also based on what they will pay.
Company jobs have set pay.
I would advise to definitely go after your interest in photography, but to also intend to have a backup career… as not everyone is so lucky to have masterpieces that change the world.
Best of luck!
I heard a CBS reporter say that he was a journalist first and an American second. Do you agree that is sick?
Do you also agree that most liberals consider themselves "Citizens of the World" first and not Americans first?
Why else invite a stated enemy of America to a friendly chat?
blueridge, you seem incapable of rational observance.
Western Culture is indeed superior to many other cultures.
Many journalists are less respectable than snake oil sellers.
If they feel that way they should move someplace else.
Maybe they should go back to the country where their ancestors came from.
STUDY: JOURNALISM STUDENTS CHEAT THE MOST
27% of journalism students cheat, and they cheat more than business majors
http://www.businessweek.com/magazine/content/06_06/c3970008.htm
"That distinction belonged (ahem) to journalism majors, 27% of whom said they cribbed answers. The most honest group? Those in the sciences, where 19% reported cheating on tests. The results come from surveys conducted over the past three years by Donald McCabe, a management professor at Rutgers Business School and founder of CAI."
Is it better to sting or be stung?
http://biggovernment.com/2009/11/30/acorn-nbc-worked-together-in-undercover-video-sting/n March 2004,
Christina introduced millions of primetime television viewers to RAL scams when she played an undercover role in a segment of Dateline, NBC’s Emmy-winning investigative news program.
Pretending to be a naive tax preparation customer, Christina walked into a Jackson Hewitt office with a Dateline producer who had a camera hidden in his sunglasses. The tax preparation employees were caught on camera as they tried to convince Christina to take out a high-interest RAL. "The Jackson Hewitt employee said it takes the IRS too long to process a refund, and made RALs seem so much faster," Christina explains. "It was surreal to see myself on TV. I had family members calling from Minnesota and New Mexico to tell me they’d seen it."
Where were her journalistic ethics?
Bees die when they sting so I’d rather be stung. Naturally I’d also rather be a human than an insect.
Does anyone know any beneficial information on Janet Cooke, the Washington Post journalist?
I am writing an essay on the ethics behind Janet Cooke’s story.I’m lacking guidance right now.Obviously, what she did was unethical but I would like to hear other people’s thoughts as supplements to my paper.
Janet Cooke was a young Black woman trying to make it in the White male dominated world of mainstream journalism. In an understandible but morally wrong effort to make a name for herself, Cooke fabricated a story about a 12 year old Black boy who was a heroin addict.
Her editors, blinded by their racism and their willingness to believe anything bad about poor Black people in the DC ghettoes, ran the story without checking to see if it was true.
And anybody who knows anything about inner city life and/or the drug world would see the obvious hole in her story – how could a 12 year old get the money to buy heroin!
Narcotics are expensive – and dopemen are NOT in the charity business!!! What heroin dealer in his right mind would just give away perfectly good heroin for free to a kid who couldn’t pay for it? Besides, legal penalties are much harsher for giving drugs to a kid than they are for selling drugs to a grownup!
But, Cooke’s editors had no street smarts whatsoever, and let their liberal racism blind them to what common sense should have told them was a bogus story!!!
what would be an example of Direct-Address style in jounalism?
Kicking 5 guys ine balls untill they rupture
How can a course in education impact your impression as you enter a career in education?
"In your opinion how would a course in education impact your impression of what to expect personally and professionally as one enter a career in education?
I am a sophomore and currently taking two courses related to my major (middle grades edu) So far they have been helpful. One is about diversity in the classroom, which will be helpful because America is a melting pot and there will be kids from all types of cultures and ethnicity’s in my class in the future and this is preparing me to deal with them. and the other is about teacher etiquette. Of course that will be helpful for obvious reasons, there are a million things that are inappropriate to do or say around children, somethings that you would not even think. So in conclusion these courses are great.
Is Nancy Grace ever going to get over this dead Kailey kid and get on with something more journalistic?
Wheres Gehaldo Herera shouldnt he be covering this?
Nancy Grace must have a obsessive disorder. She needs to move on and quit obsessing and yelling at people. You obviously didn’t see Geraldo Saturday night on the news…that’s about all he was covering!

What is a journalists (TV, newspapers, and magazine) that attend an event call?
Hi,
I am not a native English speaker and have to write a report to an American boss
I would like to know what the journalists from TV, newspapers and magazine that attend our news conference to introduce new product are called?
To make photo caption, what would I call them?
-Media witness?
-Journalist Attendees?
Please help I have no idea.
Thanks
part of being a journalist is knowing how to use fewer, smaller words so a larger audience can understand. I don’t think anything past "journalist" is really necessary.
"Journalists asked questions at press conference."
"So-and-so addressed journalists at press conference."
Photo captions are never wordy.
How do i go about becoming a broadcast journalist?
i’m a junior in high school and i’m considering going to college to become a broadcast journalist.
i want to know if theres a certian way to go about taking this route.
any clubs i should join or tips on what schools are goodd to apply at?
i already write for the high school newspaper, however it isn’t successful in the way it’s structured and the lessons taught.
If I was getting into the game today, here’s how I’d attack it…
Study journalism, and don’t limit yourself just to one specialisation – more and more we’re expected to be able to create content across all different media, so you can’t rely on just being a TV or radio journo, or just writing feature articles or photojournalism. You’ll be expected to do all sorts of things – plus, you might think you want to do one thing, but later realise your skills and passion lie somewhere totally different. I started out wanting to write features now I’m a radio station tech.
There’s a lot of luck in this industry – a lot of people wander in quite randomly through personal contacts and being in the right place at the right time. Here’s a few things that might help you maximise your luck:
Show you’re keen by volunteering with the local community radio station/campus radio/whatever’s available. Even if it’s just filing CDs for an hour a week, it’ll look good on your CV.
Request work experience or observation visits at local TV and radio stations. If you’re a member of a student guild or union, they might cover your work experience insurance costs. Not only will you learn more about the industry, but you’ll meet potential employers and get the change to make a good impression on the people who can give you work.
Writing for the high school newsletter is a great idea (however crap it is) as is having a blog, youtube channel or a twitter account – anything that shows you’re passionate about creating content. However, be sensible about it – libellous rants on your blog, copyright infringement on your YouTube page, or To Much Intimate Information style twitter or facebook updates will make you look unprofessional.
Don’t worry too much about having a Radio Voice, or voice training. The whole perfectly enunciated announcer thing is on the wane, in my experience, in favour of more real sounding people. Sure, you’re still expected to speak clearly and articulately, not swear, and not have any noticeable speech problems, but don’t worry about sounding perfect or having a regional accent.
